Boston Borough Council expenses include £10k repair to bin truck

THE council has revealed it spent more than £10,200 on a 10-year-old vehicle and paid £66,000 to the Boston Sports Initiative in the third quarter of last year.

The figures were issued on a list of expenses over £500 released by Boston Borough Council.

A spokesman said the £10,288.64 was used to replace an engine in one of the council’s refuse collection fleet’s trucks.

They added: “To hire a similar vehicle costs £800 a week and we may need to continue using it as a frontline vehicle for six months.”

They said a new vehicle costs £130,000, adding this put the repair into perspective and showed it represented value for money.

The £66,000 was part of the ‘annual budgeted support’ for the Princess Royal Sports Arena.

The spokesman said payments were made when revenue support is needed, and would not exceed the budgeted total.

They added the revenue support aims to reduce over the next few years from £176,000 in 2011/12, to £88,000 in 2012/13 and zero in 2013/14.
