Permission has been given to demolish an ‘eyesore’ building on the outskirts of Swineshead, ending a ten-year bid to remove it.

The decision was made a meeting of Boston Borough Council’s Planning Committee on Tuesday.

Planning permission for the property was originally refused in 2004 and 2005, however, the new application was called a ‘high quality design’ by Coun Paul Gleeson.

Planning officers described the plans put forward for the Ivy Farmhouse and adjoining Nissan hut, off Villa Lane, as ‘an enhancement to the character of the area’.

Mike Brookes said: “The application has the full support of the parish council and can only benefit the setting of Swineshead.”

Applicant Doreen Moses, who is from Swineshead, said: “We have wanted to replace this ugly building for over 10 years. Clive and his associate Andrew Briggs have worked very hard with planning officers to produce a design that will massively enhance this area and get rid of what are ugly structures.

“The whole process has been very stressful but on balance I am very pleased with the attitude throughout from the borough council. I think the design is a credit to everyone involved in the process.”

Councillors were keen, however, to encourage the planting of ‘good structural’ trees.

The Ivy Farmhouse will be replaced by a detached house with accommodation in the roofspace along with a triple garage with study. The private drive will also be upgraded and a new fence and hedge will be planted around the boundary.
