A new £20,000 play park in Kirton is to offer a place for young people to play – with the hope of cutting anti-social behaviour in the village.

The new park is situated on land off Church Lane and an official opening of the ground was held on Saturday.

Belinda Buttery, clerk to Kirton Parish Council, said: “We have had a problem with anti-social behaviour, and one of the reasons is because the kids have got nowhere to go, so they get told off for hanging around. This is somewhere they can go.”

Families and children in the area can take advantage of the new facilities which includes a wooden fort-style climbing frame, a football goal, swings and a multi-use games apparatus.

Belinda added: “We are also in the process of establishing a nature walk and an area with humps for a BMX track.”

The park has been in the possession of the parish council for three years after it was bought with money from a development by Longhurst.

The money for park equipment came from various donations by a variety or organisations and businesses.

County councillor Mike Brookes also donated some money towards the scheme.

The park came about following the new development. Longhurst had to provide green space so the parish council requested one large area.
