New car park planned for Boston town centre
Derelict, unkempt land on the corner of South Square and Haven Bridge, Boston.
Motorists visiting Boston town centre for their shopping could soon be benefiting from the arrival of a new car park.
Planners on Boston Borough Council have approved the development of the site at land off South Square in the town.
It will bring 55 new car parking spaces to the town centre at a time when the number of available spaces in the Market Space has been dramatically reduced.
The application to create the space on the two-hectare piece of land, which is currently covered by overgrown grass, has been made by a Barry Johnson, of London Road, Wyberton.
In a design and access statement which went with the application, he said: “A complete refurbishment of the Market Place has recently been completed, which has resulted in a greatly-reduced number of car parking spaces being available for shoppers and visitors to Boston.
“The application site is due south and relatively close to the Market Place, making it an ideal site on which to provide parking spaces for visitors to the town centre.”
Boston’s market place reopened in May following an extensive £2 million refurbishment.
The changes and alternative layout which was created meant that the number of parking spaces was reduced by 70, from 110 to 40.
There have been many problems with parking in the area since then, with many people parking illegally.
