Mr Vernon Henry Greenhough (Vern)

VERNON Henry Greenhough (Vern), of Fishtoft, has died of natural causes at Elmwood House, in Boston.

He was 88.

Born in Shipley, Yorkshire, he lived in the area for around 80 years.

A married man, he leaves behind wife Joyce, sons David, Steven and Paul, daughter Judith, brother Geoff, grandchildren Katie, Lynsey, Amy and Laura, great-grandchildren Millie, Evie, Lily, Finley and step-grandchildren John and Lyn.

Mr Greenhough served in the army as a dispatch rider in the Royal Signals during the Second World War. He also worked as a lorry driver and spent time at Norprint and Fogarty. He was a landlord at the Wormgate Inn, which is now Goodbarns Yard, Boston United Social Club and the White Hart, in Sibsey.

Away from work, he enjoyed music and singing, football, DIY, brewing beer, gardening and spending time with his family.

His funeral took place at Boston Crematorium and was followed by cremation. The service was officiated by the Rev Julie Doddrell.

Chief family mourners were: Joyce Greenhough (wife), David and Pat Greenhough, Steven and Leigh Greenhough and Paul and Shirley Greenhough (sons and daughters-in-law), Judith and Robert Doig (daughter and son-in-law), Geoff Greenhough (brother), Katie, Lynsey, Amy and Laura (grandchildren), Peter Jackson and Rodney Basham (grandchildren’s husbands), Millie, Evie, Lily and Finley (great-grandchildren) John Duffin and family and Lyn Stocks and family (step-grandchildren), Jack Bourne (brother-in-law), Linda and Dave, Elaine and Dave, John, Pam and Dave, Angela, Tina and Dave (nieces and nephews) and Mr and Mrs P. Hoim (cousin).
