FROM the same team that created the hugely successful stage adaptation of Captain Corelli's Mandolin comes Picasso and Me, an enchanting tale about fathers and sons.
Edinburgh Fringe award-winning writer and performer Mike Maran started his career as a rock star in the 1970s, opening shows for the likes of Uriah Heep, ELO, Steeleye Span and Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
Now his feet are planted firmly in the theatre, where he brings his wealth of musical knowledge – and Picasso and Me is no exception.
The story begins in the Sixties; a young lad on the hippie trail hitches a lift from a photographer who takes him to Picasso's house – where the great man paints the boy's portrait.
Fast forward to the present day and he thinks he sees this portrait in a junk shop in Paris – the same one Picasso did of him all those years ago.
Of course, it couldn't possibly be... but this portrait reminds him of that day in the South of France.
He remembers the paintings he saw in Picasso's house and begins to think about his own father and his own sons.
Simplicity, honest charm and fun are keynotes of Mike Maran's performances, which are always beautifully crafted.
He cleverly mixes music with his text and, for this show he has teamed up with composer Karen Wimhurst to create an original soundtrack to illustrate and punctuate the tale.
Picasso and Me will be on stage at Boston's Blackfriars Arts Centre on Friday (October 12) at 7.30pm.
Tickets are priced at £9 (£7 concessions, £5 NUS card holders). For more information and to book your seats call the box office on 01205 363108.
