Thursday, 3pm: Stuck for something to do this evening? Here's our guide to the best of the night's entertainment in and around Boston and our pick of the best programmes, film and sport on the box.
OUT AND ABOUT (compiled by our entertainment supremo Bob Neish)
STAR names from the Sixties are set to roll out the hits in a show at the Embassy Theatre in Skegness tonight. P.J. Proby, Chris Farlowe, Brian Poole, Vanity Fare and ex-Searchers singer Mike Pender will take the stage from 7.30pm - call 0845 674 0505 for details.
FRAMPTON Fen Follies start a three-night run of their latest production at Hubberts Bridge Community Centre at 7.30pm. Secondary Cause of Death promises a potent mixture of murder, mystery and mayhem - call 01205 290269 to find out more.
IF YOU fancy testing out your general knowledge, Boston's self-proclaimed 'toughest quiz in town' makes its weekly appearance at the Eagle pub in West Street. Entry is free, there's beer prizes up for grabs and the questions start at 9pm.
TONIGHT'S TOP TV (by Standard news editor Stephen Stray)
BBC2, 6.30-7pm: The Great British Menu
FORMER Boston College student Jason Atherton will be looking to serve up a treat for the judges in this culinary cook-off.
Jason, well-known as Gordon Ramsay's right-hand man and business partner, is competing for the chance to cook for ground-breaking chef Heston Blumenthal and his guests at incredible London landmark the Gherkin.
To win, the chefs must prove they are the best when it comes to creating modern British cuisine.
BBC2, 9-10pm: Heroes
THE second series of the hit US series is now well underway, but like Marmite it would appear that you either love it or hate it.
Those that love it, will tonight be treated to more from the band with special powers, as new abilities are discovered and Claire becomes suspicious of her father.
FEET UP WITH A FILM? (Tonight's best movies by reporter David Seymour)
Five US, 9pm: Hellboy (2004) 12A
EASILY missed among the barrage of films making the jump from comic book to the big screen, but Guillermo Del Toro's adaptation is well worth a look. Ron Pearlman is perfectly cast as the wisecracking demon crime fighter. A chance to catch the original before Hellboy II: The Golden Army hits cinemas this summer.
Film4, 9pm - Crash (2004) 15
THIS surprised everyone when it won the Oscar for Best Film, but the patchwork tale of race relations in Los Angeles scores high on the drama scale. Watch as an ensemble cast, including Thandie Newton and Matt Dillon, interweave in this skilfully structured film and see if it was worth all the fuss.
SPORTING SELECTION (The evening's best live action courtesy of sports reporter Duncan Browne)
Sky Sports 2, 7.30pm - International football: Wales U21s v England U21s
ENGLAND Under 21s travel to face the Welsh Under 21 side in this friendly fixture to mark the Welsh reaching their 100th match at this level.
After England's defeat to their close rivals during the Six Nations rugby tournament, this may be a good opportunity to nationalists to gain some revenge.
Things are looking good for Stuart Pearce's men, who have only conceded one goal in their last eight contests.
* Alternative: League One play-off football: Carlisle United v Leeds United (Sky Sports 1, 7.45pm).
Sport outside the box:
THE Yello Velo cycling club will be setting off for the second of this season's Thursday night 10-mile time trials.
See the cyclists set off from Canisters Lane, Frithville from 7pm, looking to break the times posted the previous week.
We'll be publishing the Standard Selection – your guide to the evening's entertainment - every day here at www.bostonstandard.co.uk
