23/07/08 - EU is making health priority
Published Date:
23 July 2008
ALTHOUGH I understand everyone's concern about the increased cost of food, the information contained in last week's article about the pesticide ban did not go as far as to explain why the EU had taken this action.
Could it be anything to do with the research carried out by the EU's REACH teams and other scientists?
Having read the EU's website www.ec.europa.eu/ environment/endocrine/strategy I moved on to read what the Pesticides Action Network www.pan-uk.org/Projects/ Exposure/briefings had to say.
Then I asked myself why one of our biggest and oldest local farming families would go totally organic 17 years ago? I don't suppose it was just for the fun of it.
Do we owe the EU a debt of gratitude for making health the priority of the day?
