We are writing as a group of very concerned parents who feel utter dismay and anger at the situation regarding Boston Grammar School. We feel these pupils have been abandoned, teachers treated unfairly and as far as we know there are not any real plans for these boys' and girls' future.
What will happen when the pupil numbers disintegrate further next year, with boys being sucked into the High School year by year? More teachers will leave and no-one will replace them.
Pupils are already telling parents that some subjects are lac
king in appropriate teaching. This is not any fault of the teachers, but unfortunately many have felt compelled to leave under the current regime. The pupils are also dismayed that there is a lack of support for the 6th form, a crucial time for them when they are completing their university applications.
If these boys and girls are moved to the 'Spilsby Road site', how will that school accommodate them? In some years that will mean 200+ pupils. This sounds like far too many pupils for a school which has not even began to look as though it is being extended. Just when will the work begin?
Surely the people in power have thought of this? Or is it that our children are going to be sacrificed for the sake of others' long term plans - yes, we think so.
Parents need to take a look at a well-known social networking website and see how unhappy the boys and girls are with the forthcoming loss of their school, identity, history and traditions. There are now over 660 members of this particular site, probably more by now. The same number of members have joined a group to keep the school song, which was very nearly savagely cut out of the school yearly service of celebration. Well done boys and girls. You have shown that you have real spirit, be proud of yourselves.
Surely it must be recognised that these pupils are unhappy and WANT to keep their school and WANT to learn.
Parents may not realise that the funding for the joint school may not even be for a Grammar School and also may not be available for YEARS to come. Where are the plans? As far as we are aware there is NO adequate funding in place so far for such an ambitious project.
These disruptions, many felt so unnecessary, are having a huge impact on our children, and will leave a legacy for future generations -if indeed the schools survive at all.
If the Boston Grammar Schools Federation parents want a continuing Grammar education for their children, then they ought to be fighting to keep this Grammar School open.
We see that four Heads of comprehensive schools along with the Federation Head are making plans for partnerships, but where are the plans for OUR pupils left in limbo at the Boston Grammar?
We need to fight for our children, as they only have one chance. We are supposed to support them.
Parents are now getting together and realising the damaging situation.
More parents, more power. Results are already dropping, and if we as parents don't act now the school will be GONE.
Please for the sake of our children, stand up and be counted.
Parents Group, hoping to prevent the loss of our Grammar School and High School.
