I HAVE been very pleased about recent letters in your paper re Cuckoo Land and the fact local residents want to leave it for wildlife and recreational purposes.
It seems its profile has been raised – lots more people using the meadow for walking, birding and general interest. Those who used to go along the pavement now go in the field.
This is an exciting time of year for wildlife. For example, 11 barn owl sightings, and five kingfisher sightings this year, snipe (lots), hares in the field, little egrets still present – and, best of all, muntjack and Chinese water deer.
Some of these species are protected under the wildlife and countryside act – it would be a tragedy if a housing development took them away.
The dog retains the glory of romping in the field – as long as the resident rodents remain relatively docile. There is nothing worse than being savaged by a demented mouse.
