Sports teams playing in Wyberton are set to benefit from a massive funding boost after the club received a grant from the Football Foundation.
The 16 teams which play at Wyberton Football Club will be getting new changing rooms and other new facilities as a result of the £186,594 grant from the charity, which is the largest sports charity in the UK.
It is hoped the revamp – which will also see a new social area built – will provide a good base for grassroots sport in the community.
Paul Spencer, project chairman, said: “This is the result of over two years hard work from the playing field and football committee’s and working in close partnership with the Football Association and the Football Foundation.”
The club, which is based on The Causeway off Saundergate Lane, has been working towards regenerating its facilities for a number of years in a bid to bring the club up to scratch.
Members have been fighting to secure funding for the improvements for a long time.
The new sports pavilion will house four new changing rooms, allowing for male, female and disabled use, two referee rooms and a storage room, as well as the social space.
Paul Thorogood, chief executive of the Football Foundation, said: “I commend Wyberton Football Club and the Lincolnshire FA for working tirelessly to secure this funding and I look forward to seeing the end result in the near future.”
The Football Foundation was established in 2000. Funded by the FA, the Premier League and Sport England, it has provided more than 8,000 projects with grants totalling £420 million.
The input of the charity has also led to more funding for grassroots sports organisations of around £520 million.
