The Boston Standard scooped three publishing awards at a ceremony last week – including the crown of Title of the Year.

The paper won the Best Use of Digital Platforms, Small Weekly Title of the Year as well as the overall Title of the Year categories at the inaugral Johnston Press Awards.

The titles were handed out on Thursday night at the Marriott Hotel in Peterborough.

Standard editor Stephen Stray said: “We are all absolutely thrilled to have collected a hat-trick of awards and overwhelmed to have scooped the much-coveted Title of The Year award.

“I am delighted for everyone associated with the Boston Standard and immensely proud of the team.

“The awards mark the successful end to a year which also saw the paper celebrate its centenary before relaunching and then becoming the first title of its size in the country to have a tablet computer app.

“I would also like to thank our readers and advertisers for their continued support across all of our platforms.”

The categories were open to all Johnston Press titles – which number more than 200 across England, Scotland and Ireland. The Edinburgh Evening News, Falkirk Herald, Scarborough News and Northumberland Gazette also contested the overall title award having won their respected categories.

Handing out the final award, chief executive Ashley Highfield said: “It gives me real pleasure to present this to a team that I think represents exactly what a local community newspaper should be  doing.

“This team has embraced the digital first approach and seems to have a bottomless pit of energy and enthusiasm.

“The judges felt this centre embodies everything good about Johnston Press, and its future.”

Publishing unit managing director Richard Parkinson said: “The enthusiastic Boston Standard team does a great job of keeping the people of Boston and the surrounding area informed, engaged and entertained; in print, online and on mobile, seven days a week.They thoroughly deserve this recognition.”
