ONE of the world’s biggest operas is coming to Blackfriars Theatre for the first time on Wednesday.

The Spain Lane theatre will be hosting a fully staged and orchestrated production of Carmen by Bizet.

Carmen is a passionate tale of seduction and sexual obsession, boasting some of the best-known melodies ever composed.

It tells the story of a dangerous gypsy, dancing through life and valuing her freedom above all else.

With Spanish colour and fiery drama, the opera includes the Flower Song, Habanera and the Toreador's Song.

Heritage Opera members Serenna Wagner, Sarah Helsby Hughes, Nicholas Sales and Mark Saberton head an international cast.

Lead tenor Nick Sales has sung principal parts at the Royal Opera House, La Fenice in Venice, with Northen Opera and many others.

Sarah Helsby's career includes performances in Europe, the USA and Japan. She has appeared for many opera companies, including Mid-Wales Opera, Carl Rosa Opera and Opera North and Lyric Opera Dublin.

Serenna Wagner has sung with companies including British Youth Opera and Opera by Definition, and Mark Saberton has sung with Royal Opera, Opera North, Scottish Opera, Garsington Opera and Opera Holland Park.

The show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £22 (£20 conc).
