TV's green team live the good life

HANDY hints on how to live a greener lifestyle will be the theme of an entertaining evening at Spalding's South Holland Centre.

Gadgets and Going Green will feature Dick Strawbridge and his son James, both familiar TV faces from their two BBC2 series of It's Not Easy Being Green.

Engineer extraordinaire Dick began his screen career on Channel 4's Scrapheap Challenge.

More recently – and sporting probably the biggest moustache to hit TV for quite a while – Dick and his family, including son James, were the subjects of It's Not Easy Being Green, in which they aspired to live a 21st century lifestyle while producing little or no waste and reducing their reliance on fossil fuels – a real 'Good Life' story.

The 'green' renovation of their West Country home is an ongoing project and has proved appealing to audiences who may want to change their habits but do not know where to start.

In the show, Dick and James will be sharing their successes, 'blind alleys' and funny stories, and will take audience questions in the second half.

Green information packs will also be available on the night.

The show on Wednesday, January 30, starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost 12.50.

Award-winning jazz singer Claire Martin returns to the South Holland Centre on Thursday, January 31, with Jim Mullen on guitar, Laurence Cottle (bass) and Chris Dagley (drums) for her tribute to the influential American jazz singer-pianist Shirley Horn.

The show starts at 8pm and tickets are priced 13. Call the box office on 01775 764777 for further details.

For the best news, sport and leisure coverage in the area turn to the Boston Standard, out every Wednesday for just 40p.
