Thursday, 2pm - POLICE in Boston are offering up an alternative Christmas menu.
Rather than turkey with all the trimmings as the main course, officers are offering advice such 'ensure all gifts are kept out of view'.
The advice is contained in a leaflet entitled Christmas Crime Menu and offers important information regarding securing your vehicle, home and property.
The menu promotes steps that can be taken by everyone to help have a happy and crime free Christmas and New Year.
Det Insp Nigel Storey said: "Christmas is a busy time for us all, but unfortunately it is also a particularly busy time of year for the criminals, who will be out looking for easy pickings.
"I have attended numerous burglaries and witnessed for myself the impact and misery these offences cause. Sadly, I have also lost count of the number of Christmas celebrations that have been cancelled as a result."
For 'starters' is crime prevention advice about vehicle security, reminding owners not to leave shopping in full view for all to see and the dangers of leave vehicles unlocked.
The 'main course' focuses on home security, prompting householders to secure doors and windows, reminding them about not leaving gifts in full view and what to do if they're planning to go away for the festive period.
And 'dessert' is about personal property, how to get it marked and where to keep cheque books, bank cards and cash.
Det Insp Storey added: "Every year we spend a tremendous amount of money on gifts for our loved ones, potentially making ourselves vulnerable to the criminal fraternity. We need everyone to take responsibility for their security to assist us in the fight against festive crime."
The leaflet is available by dropping into your nearest police station, attending a local Neighbourhood Policing surgery or contacting your local Neighbourhood Policing Team. It is also on the Lincolnshire Police website www.lincs.police.uk.
