Saturday, 9am: HORSE rider Tori Kent has received expert tuition from a former Olympian.
The 16-year-old enjoyed a 'once in a lifetime opportunity' when she won a lesson with Christopher Bartle at his Yorkshire Riding Centre.

He has represented Britain at the Olympics in both eventing and dressage, and is currently the national coach of the German three-day event team.

"It was absolutely brilliant," said Tori, from Frampton. "It was a once in a lifetime opportunity. He is a very nice man and was down to earth."

Tori and her horse, Bertie Bassett, made the trip to Harrogate last month, where they were put through their paces on a cross-country course. They spent about one hour with Christopher, who gave advice through a radio and earpiece.

"Bertie and I had a great time and I took on board everything he said," added Tori. "I now can't wait to put into practice what I have learned."

News of the lesson really couldn't have come at a better time for the South Lincs Riding Club member.

"I was just recovering from glandular fever, so it was a real boost," she said.

Before the trip, Tori also had the chance to see Christopher in action as he competed at the Belton Horse Trials, at Grantham.

Tori has been riding for about 10 years and has owned her own horse for the last five.

As part of the competition, run by specialist magazine Your Horse, Tori also won a new saddle.
