Bid to build youth theatre

A NEW youth organisation aiming to build a new theatre in the town is seeking new members and help to raise funds.

What Free Time?!, run by 23-year-old Amanda Rivers, aims to fill the gap left by Government cuts to local youth organisations.

It will provide a number of after school evening clubs, special trips and events.

The organisation is trying to raise money to build a new performance venue at Boston High School and has raised £1,500 towards it.

More urgently, it needs new members to take on parts in its next show.

Amanda said: “The main problem we are having at the moment is that our Youth Theatre is putting on a production of Les Miserables in April.

“We have a fantastically talented cast of about 30 members, but still have spaces for another 20, and we need a leading man to play the main role of Jean Val Jean - as well as eight more boys for the parts of Enjorlas, Monsieur Thenardier and the revolutionary students.”

The group rehearses every Thursday night from 5-8pm, at Carlton Road Youth Centre.

New members must be under 19, there is no joining fee but the group are asking parents to consider donating upto £50 if they feel they can afford it. If not, Amanda said this will have no effect on decisions made by the group.

Another fundraising event taking place is the Under 18s Valentine’s Ball, on February 15, at After Dark nightclub. It will feature DJ Chris Valentine.

Anyone aged 12-17 can attend. Tickets are £5.
