FROM an ornate medieval dagger sheath to a tiny leather shoe, the Boston Big Dig has unearthed some very interesting treasures.

The teams may have set out looking for something completely different, but after coming across dozens of medieval items, as well as objects which tell tales of the Georgian period in the town, they were thrilled with their unexpected finds.

People from all walks of life got together for the Big Dig, and by all accounts everybody was very enthusiastic about the undertaking.

Gavin Glover, lead archaeologist on the project, said: “We always hoped it was going to be good, but it’s exceeded our expectations. It’s been more successful than we ever dreamed.”

The three-week dig finished on Sunday, and now archaeologists have the task of stabilising and cataloguing finds and writing a report on the project.

“We’ve got to bring everything together,” Gavin said.
