FLAGS were raised in Boston on Monday to mark the start of week-long celebrations for Armed Forces Day.

Across the country, at 10.30am sharp, flags were raised at public buildings, businesses, military bases and private homes – all in a show of support for the country’s servicemen and women.

Boston’s Mayor, Coun Mary Wright, was joined by representatives from ex-service organisations, the Lord Lieutenant, Commanding Officer of RAF Coningsby, and local cadets as she raised the flag at the Memorial Gardens, in Wide Bargate.

The national event is aimed at increasing public awareness of the contribution made by those who have served and continue to serve in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces.
