Pedestrians should be crossing the new St Botolph’s footbridge either later tonight (Monday) or early tomorrow morning it has been confirmed.
A Lincolnshire County Council spokesman said contractors had been due to get much needed specialist parts today and were hoping to have installed them by this evening, meaning they can open the bridge either late tonight or early tomorrow morning.
The £750,000 structure was officially opened by Park Academy Pupils on Friday, but had to close for a few days following the event to allow the handrail and lighting to be fitted.
The contemporary bowstring design was chosen following extensive consultation with the public in which they were asked to vote for one of three shortlisted options - including a traditional brick design.
The new footbridge, which spans the Haven between the Stump and police station, is jointly funded by Lincolnshire County Council and the ERDF as part of the ‘Routes Not Barriers’ project.
