Winning the Best New Business Award was certainly the icing on the cake for a great first year in business for The Cake Lady.
It was an emotional acceptance speech on the night from owner Rebecca Callow who took to the stage wearing a distictive ‘cake’ hair fascinator,
Thanking her customers and all those who selected her, she said: “I would also like to thank the Wormgate crew for welcoming me to the street and embracing me with open arms and helping me at every opportunity and lending me your business advice.
“I would also like to thank my amazing husband. You’re just an massive support to me.
“We’ve got the children, you’re doing your degree, and it’s a massive strain on everybody but we manage and we always push on through – and that’s why we’re here tonight I suppose.”
She also thanked her mum and dad, before adding: “Yes there’s a recession,
“I make cakes which are a luxury, but I’m doing really well and everybody likes my cakes – so keep buying cake!”
Based in the town’s historic Wormgate, The Cake Lady was nominated for offering a personalised cake-making service, using unique marketing and promotion.
Runners-up on the evening were the Lincolnshire Stove Company, based in Sibsey, and The Witham and Blues restaurant in Langrick.
