Administrators have announced that Boston’s HMV store will close.

The future of the Pescod Square shop has been in doubt since the national chain went into administration last month and today it was revealed it is on the list of 66 ‘loss making’ stores that will be axed.

Nine members of staff will lose their jobs when the closure takes place. Administrators Deloitte have not revealed when the shop will shut its doors, but say it will be within the next ‘one to two months’.

Nick Edwards, joint administrator, said: “As part of our ongoing review of HMV’s financial position, we have now completed a review of the store portfolio and have identified 66 loss making stores for closure.

“This step has been taken in order to enhance the prospects of securing the business’ future as a going concern.

“We continue to receive strong support from staff and are extremely grateful to them for their commitment during an understandably difficult period.

“All other key stakeholders remain very supportive and I continue to be hopeful of securing a future for the restructured business.”

Staff from the store have taken to Twitter on the @HMVBoston account to react to the news, saying: “Bad times guys, good luck to the guys who are staying open” and “Well we are still open for 4-6 weeks! Lets remain professional and go out in style :) #HMVForever.”
