Boston Town Team held its Local Food For Thought showcase in the town last Saturday.

A free event, it brought together local producers and food experts to help people from the area improve their knowledge of healthy food, how to prepare it, and where to buy it from.

Among the attractions was a smoothie-making bike near the Herbert Ingram memorial in the Market Place.

Jenny Elwick, Boston Town Team co-ordinator, said more than 100 people came along on the day.

“The event went extremely well,” she said. “We were delighted.”

Jenny said as well as promoting healthy living and local produce, the event, which was funded by Boston Big Local, helped raise the profile of the town team.

She said: “It made people aware of the fact we are there and what we are trying to do.”

The Town Team is managed by the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce; it formed in March of last year and went on to reveal its business plan in November.

This set out its goals as: increasing visitor numbers, increasing tourist numbers, increasing dwell time, reducing the number of empty units within the town and improving business, representation and consultation, through business participation.

The aim, the team stated, was to make Boston a ‘more vibrant place to live, visit, and work in’.

Ms Elwick said future events will help meet this objective.

“If we can we would really like to have at least one event a month,” she said.

This month, it is supporting a pancake day event at the Herbert Ingram memorial in Market Place on Saturday, February 13.

It runs from 1.30-3.30pm and is being organised by the Boston Lithuanian Community.
