A family-run farm shop business in Swineshead has just been crowned the Best Small Farm Shop in Britain.

Manor Farm Shop is run by the Moses/Thompson family, who set up their first shop 25 years ago at the side of their farm. In 2013 they opened a second farm shop, in a modern timber building on the side of the main A52.

From field to shelf – the company use fresh vegetables from surrounding fields and quality produce sourced from around the region. They also stock cheeses meats, eggs, preserves, juices and much more.

Their new building is bright and modern, yet informal and fresh. And the family’s friendly business approach has kept customers coming back.

Their success has now been recognised with the Best Small Farm Shop 2014 award by FARMA – the National Farmers’ Retail and Markets Association.

Six of the shop’s team went to the ceremony in London’s Hilton Hotel where the exciting news was announced.

Judge Mike Blee, said of the shop: “The rustic exterior becomes a light bright and colourful experience inside the shop. The farm’s own produce is superb and carefully-selected local products alongside. Smashing.”

The family said they went through a ‘rollercoaster of emotions ‘at the awards, ending with a ‘feeling of elation’ when they were announced the winners.

The Moses family says it puts quality first and support many local produce businesses. About 80 to 100 per cent of the vegetables sold are grown on their own farm.

Manor Farm’s Angela Thompson said the farm shop shad humble beginnings about 30 years ago, selling a few daffodils from a table top. She said: “We stock Lincolnshire-produced products wherever possible and usually there are well over 30 different quality producers being showcased at any one time. The shop is more a showcase of Lincolnshire finery.”
