LETTER: £1m? Don’t be greedy Richard...

I refer to the letter you published from Coun Richard Austin. He is letting his greed run away with him.

RWE npower has no planning permission for the proposed Triton Knoll turbine array, the public inquiry having only recently finished, let alone for the cabling right across Lincolnshire or the substation on Bicker Fen.

He suggests, interalia, that such planning permissions are a foregone conclusion, and the only matter at stake is how much money can be extracted from RWE in return for planning permission.

This is quite shocking.

Coun Austin has no interest in the vast environmental damage which will be caused to Lincolnshire by compounds near Skegness, the underground cabling and another sub station on Bicker Fen on top of the existing substation and wind turbines.

One of RWE’s proposals is for this enormous new 50 acre substation to be built on top grade agricultural land 190 metres from the nearest house, and far too close to other properties in Bicker and Northorpe.

Hundreds of thousands of construction vehicles would also come through the centre of Bicker village, causing untold damage.

The lives of local residents would be severely disrupted for years, and houses are already seriously blighted and devalued.

Strong objections to building the substation on Bicker Fen, when there are many alternatives, have been lodged with RWE by our Member of Parliament, two MEPs, Bicker Parish Council and many local residents, but RWE has ignored the protests.

I am confident that Boston Borough Council will base its decision on the best interest of local residents, and not based on greed.
