Poignant charity drive raises £14k

A law firm with an office in Boston has raised more than £14,000 for a Lincolnshire hospice, a cause that sadly became close to its heart in 2015.

Chatterons Solicitors collected £14,181.74 for its Charity of the Year, St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice, last year.

It was a cause that took on added significance during the year after a member of staff was diagnosed with cancer and received care at the hospice ahead of her death.

The sum was amassed through a range of fundraisers, including quizzes, bake-a-thons, a tombola, raffles, 10 pin bowling, a Christmas jumper day. The main event of the year was an F1 evening which raised £7,250.

A spokesman for the firm paid tribute to the ‘continued support’ from local businesses and individuals as well as the ‘generosity and hard work’ of Chattertons staff in raising the sum.

Katherine Bunting, partner at the firm and chairman of the charity committee, said: “St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice provide a vital and free service that we at Chattertons are proud to support.

“This year’s charity has also touched the hearts of the staff at Chattertons as our dear colleague Sophie Attfield was diagnosed with a tumour earlier in the year and has since passed away.

“Sophie was admitted to St Barnabas Hospice in Lincoln so we are pleased to have been supporting the hospice in 2015.”

Veronica Brien, head of fundraising and marketing at St Barnabas, said: “We are forever grateful for the support they have given us, not just the financial contribution but also the awareness they have raised amongst friends, family and their clients.

Through this support, we are able to continue providing the care and support to the people of Lincolnshire and ensure that our patients and their families can make the most of every moment together, thank you.”

In memory of Sophie, the Charity of the Year for 2016 is The Brain Tumour Charity.
