Multi-million pound plans for hundreds of new homes and a new football stadium to the south of Boston have won strong public backing.
More than three-quarters of people who responded to the survey about the Quadrant development said they were in support of the scheme.
‘Q1’ is the first phase of a project that will provide about 500 new homes, new retail and leisure units, a new £5.5m stadium for Boston United and the first section of a new road that may ultimately link to the A52.
It would be based on both sides of the A16 at Wyberton.
Chestnut Homes got 419 responses to its public consultation, with 76 per cent in favour of the plan, 15 per cent against and six per cent unsure (three per cent did not specify).
David Newton, managing director, said: “We would like to thank everyone who took part in this first stage of the consultation. We are delighted with the support received and the feedback has been really useful in identifying what we need to focus on further as we develop the plans for Q1.”
Concerns raised by respondents included the impact on traffic, education and healthcare provision and the character of the area.
The community stadium was also a source of concern for some, although 75 per cent of respondents said they felt the proposed location was appropriate.
Following feedback the capacity of the ground has been increased from 4,300 to 5,000 to make it fit for the Football League with a larger ‘Town End’ style stand.
Mr Newton said the project’s website (www.thequadrantboston.co.uk) has been updated to let people know how it may address each of the main issues raised. This includes match day parking restrictions in the surrounding area and possible introduction of speed limits on the A16 to boost road safety. A new target date of March/April has been set to submit the application to Boston Borough Council - a change from the original target of February due to a delay in traffic modelling work.
