Rail bosses have ruled out an improved service between Boston and Lincoln, saying there is no evidence of a demand for a better link.

Commuters face leaving Boston at 6.13am if they wish to get to the city in time for work or meetings at 9am.

That service arrives at 7.22am after a 26-minute wait at Sleaford and the next service doesn’t reach Lincoln until 9.13am, leaving Boston at 7.46am and with a 29-minute wait in Sleaford.

East Midlands Trains, which runs services in the area, has said that improvements to the signalling on the Spalding to Lincoln line might lead to more trains for commuters there, but Boston is unlikely to benefit as a knock-on effect of that investment.

A spokesman for East Midlands Trains said there is not enough demand to warrant a more convenient commuter service for Boston, adding: “We have worked hard to provide the best possible service we can for passengers travelling on our network and carry out regular consultation with our local authorities and passenger groups to identify where we can make further timetable improvements.

“However, train timetables are governed by a number of factors including availability of the infrastructure, the number of trains made available by the Government through our franchise and passenger demand.”

The county council says it works with rail providers to get the best servicese but says it has a limited influence.

The first IC5 bus service of the day leaves Boston at 8am and arrives in Lincoln at 9.43am.
