Boston. Saturday 24 May 2014 News. Roadworks. Planned six week closure junction of John Adams Way and Main Ridge East GV

Roadworks have started today (Tuesday) to improve John Adams Way, Main Ridge East, Vauxhall Road, Freiston Road, and Eastwood Road, in Boston.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire County Council said the six-week project, which will cost £275,000 and is due to run until Friday, July 4, will be carried out in phases to try to minimise disruption as much as possible.

The work will include replacing the traffic lights on the Main Ridge junction of John Adams Way and will mean one lane will need to be closed going westbound. Vehicles will not be able to turn into Main Ridge East and the pedestrian crossings at this junction will also be closed.

The spokesman said: “Main Ridge East and Vauxhall Road have reached the end of their working life and require a full reconstruction and resurfacing. This is the largest and most disruptive element of this project, and the road will be closed for up to six weeks, although it will be fully reinstated during the weekend of the Seabank Marathon on June 22.”

Lincolnshire County Council will be carrying out pothole patching in this area, and National Grid will be carrying out maintenance of a gas main on a section of Freiston Road between the junction with Church Road and Lindis Road.

The spokesman said the two jobs had been coupled together in order to reduce disruption. The road will be closed during this time, and diversions will be in place via Church Street/Freiston Road/John Adams Way (A16), and also via Woodthorpe Avenue/Lindis Road/John Adams Way.

Finally, pothole repairs and surface dressing will take place on Eastwood Road for a short period towards the end of the works.

The spokesman said this will only require a road closure for a few days, and during this time diversions will be in place via Rochford Tower Lane/ Wainfleet Road (A52)/John Adams way.

They added access will be maintained at all times for residents and businesses and said ‘businesses have been informed directly and every effort will be made to support trade throughout the period of work.’

Head of highways at Lincolnshire County Council Satish Shah said: “This is a very important piece of work that will improve several of the busiest roads in Boston. We have tried to structure the works to reduce disruption as much as possible, but I apologise if they cause you any inconvenience.

“If you’re not sure how these works will affect you please visit our website, or contact our customer services team on 01522 782070.”
