A craft workshop at a Boston shopping centre has been declared a hit after scores took part on the day and thousands more got involved online.
The free spring-themed event took place at the Pescod Square Shopping Centre last Saturday, running from 10am-3pm.
Children had the chance to decorate wooden bird boxes with brushes, pens, crayons, gems, and other accessories.
All materials were provided and supervision and guidance was given on the day to help with the creative process.
In the end, more than 100 children took part.
Alongside the workshop, the shopping centre ran a Facebook competition encouraging people to ‘like’ and ‘share’ a graphic publicising the event for the chance to win a £50 voucher. The promotion achieved a reach of 15,187 people on social media.
In addition, the centre says feedback forms given out on the day were unanimous in their positive comments and it also recorded an increase in footfall.
Andy Pottle, Pescod Square Shopping Centre manager, said: “We were over the moon with the attendance on the day of our Spring Craft event and the interest in our associated social media competition.”
He added: “We look forward to hosting similar events and promotions at the shopping centre throughout the year.”
In conjunction with the event, Wilko, in the Square, gave away free bird seed on the day to all participants, while Greggs handed out chocolate bunny biscuits.
In addition, the RSPB provided guides on wild bird feeding and care.
Pescod Square Shopping Centre opened in August 2004.
It comprises 19 high street retailers as well as a 400 space multi-storey car park.
