A $300 million superyacht owned by the Emir of Qatar is to be powered by the world’s biggest device of its kind, which has been designed and made by a Frampton firm.
At over 124 metres long and nearly 8,000 tonnes, the Kataris is one of the largest yachts in the world.
Rolec Services’ pioneering bespoke 2000amp marina-side electrical supply panel will now power the yacht.
Steve King, Rolec’s design engineer and Middle East manager, said: “This unique panel will be sited at the Island Marina in Qatar and will be used to supply power to the whole superyacht, instead of supplying it through a generator or transformer.
“It will mean a lot less trailing cables - making the whole operation safer and neater. We are one of very few companies around the world capable of undertaking this project and it is testament to our reputation in the industry for quality and reliability that we were approached to do this bespoke world-first.”
The unit is almost seven-and-a-half feet tall and just under 10 feet wide.
