Green light for Boston roads misery with four lots of works planned for next week
The junction of John Adams' Way/South End in Boston.
A week of roadworks in and around Boston are set to cause traffic misery – with some of the busiest roads around the town affected.
The already-congested John Adams Way is set to be hit by gas works next week, as are Fydell Street and Spilsby Road. Main Ridge West will also be shut for resurfacing.
It means motorists will face delays, diversions and disruption in a town centre well known for its poor traffic infrastructure.
Michael Simpson, director at taxi firm Angels of Boston, said: “They’re doing it on three of the busiest roads leading into Boston. It’s going to be absolutely crazy. It will snarl everything up.
“It’s going to have a big effect for all local businesses, especially people like us who provide transport.”
National Grid Gas, which is behind some of the work, has coordinated the digging to fall in half-term, but it will still impact on hundreds of drivers.
Alan Spinks, principal highways officer, said: “We are pleased that National Grid have agreed to our recommendation that their repairs are carried out over the school half-term, so that traffic will be lighter and the disruption to motorists will be minimised as much as possible.”
The works next week will see...
*Gas works along John Adams Way between South End and Rowley Road. No left turn to South End. From Friday for one week. Lorries and other traffic wanting to turn left will have to turnaround at Liquorpond Roundabout and queue up to turn right.
*Resurfacing on Main Ridge West. The road will be closed from 9.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday.
*Work on trenches on Spilsby Road by National Grid Gas. Temporary traffic lights will be in place on Monday and Tuesday. Hospital Lane will be closed in one direction.
*Gas works at Fydell Street at the junction with Carlton Road. Temporary lights will be in place next Thursday and Friday.
