Boston MP Mark Simmonds has spoken of his ‘delight’ at new jobs created at a banana ripening site in the town.
Morrisons have take on the former Del Monte site off Marsh Lane, which will be used to produce 100,000 cases of bananas a week once it is fully operational in February.
The site has begun operating and showed the junior foreign office minister around its operations at the factory, which was last open in 2011.
Mr Simmonds said: “Morrisons is unique as a supermarket in that it owns a number of manufacturing sites that create jobs across the country. I’m delighted that the company has invested in the local area and is creating 80 jobs for people in Boston.”
Morrisons Head of Produce Operations Phil Cummings said: “It’s really important that we continue to strengthen our manufacturing division – something which really sets us apart from other supermarkets in this country. We’re delighted to have re-opened this site in Boston and look forward to providing customers with bananas that are ripened to suit their taste.”
