A Boston opticians is settling into its new home following an energetic official opening.

Specsavers has relocated from Market Place to Wide Bargate, occupying the former Rymans unit.

The store was officially opened by Boston United’s assistant team manager Martyn Bunce and Hayley-Jo Whitney, the star of the Specsavers ‘Workout’ TV commercial.

Hayley-Jo, who played the role of a short-sighted fitness teacher accidently performing at a bingo evening for the elderly, delivered a routine outside the store and encouraged shoppers to join in with the fun.

The official opening also saw a caricaturist on hand who created customers’ portraits in return for donations to St Barnabas, Lincolnshire Hospice – the store’s nominated charity.

Speaking to The Standard this week, store director Amy Marshall said: “We’re delighted to be up and running in our new store and we’ve already been made to feel very welcome by customers and local businesses.

“Our opening celebration was great fun and we look forward to holding more charity fundraising events in the future.”

The new store is bigger than the previous one, with four test rooms (up from three), all of which are downstairs.

It also has a dedicated hearing room, complete with soundproof hearing booth.

The move has also seen the team grow, with two additional staff being employed from the local area.
