New maps to help Market Place parkers
Signs going up in Market Place. NA
New signs will be placed on ticket machines to help puzzled drivers find out where they can or cannot park in the Market Place.
The plans were revealed during the public questions at Boston Borough Council’s full council meeting on November 19.
They came in response to a question from Coun Paul Goodale about poor signage in the refurbished area.
Coun Derek Richmond said the signs are soon to be installed to ‘assist drivers’ and ‘remove any uncertainty’.
The £120 signs feature a colour-coded plan showing where people can and cannot park.
It may mean drivers will have to park up and then check the map to see if they are in a correct space before paying.
After the meeting a spokesman for the council said: “The information could not be taken in as you drove past them, in fact to invite drivers to do so would be hazardous.
“All using the Market Place properly will see them when they purchase a ticket, so placing them near the ticket machines seems the obvious place to put them.”
In the meeting Coun Richmond said that the absence of road markings to show a route through the market was ‘intended to avoid drivers assuming priority’.
In response to comments from Insp David Rimmer calling the Market Place ‘dangerous’, Coun Derek Richmond said he did not accept the premise of the question.
He said: “While I am aware of a specific police officer expressing a comment about the Market Place, I am not aware that, that is the police view at all .”
