New parking wardens dish out fines to Boston parkers

New county council parking wardens dished out 116 tickets across Boston in the first four days after taking over enforcement of the rules.
Officers began dishing out tickets to cars parked in the wrong places last Monday, and by Thursday Boston had seen more tickets issued than the rest of the county, apart from Lincoln.
In total there were 613 handed out in the first four days; 298 in Lincoln, 116 in Boston, 85 in South Kesteven, 46 in North Kesteven, 42 in East Lindsey, 18 in West Lindsey and just eight in South Holland.
Head of highways, Brian Thompson, said: “We’ve done a lot to raise awareness about taking on parking enforcement because we didn’t want it to be a surprise for people. As long as motorists stick the ‘signs and lines’ in place, and park considerately without causing an obstruction or danger to others, they won’t have anything to worry about.
“Enforcement countywide is going well so far, with most people welcoming the officers’ presence, keen for something to be done about badly parked vehicles.”
He added that the number of tickets handed out was lower than the number of warning notices dished out in the pre-launch ‘period of grace’.
