SHOPPERS in Boston borough are being urged to spend their Christmas cash locally.
Country Land and Business Association, the rual watchdog, also argues local shops offer a better experience for festive present hunters.
CLA East Midlands director Andrew Shirley said: “Local shops contribute a great deal to the economic health of an area, but are under threat from large supermarkets and the boom in internet shopping.
“A good festive season can help ensure that local businesses survive.
“We also want rural-dwellers to enjoy visits to local pubs and to eat in local cafes and restaurants as part of their festive celebrations.
“Buying goods or services from a local enterprise helps the owner maintain local jobs and employ local people.
“And, of course, what could be more traditional than a local tree and local turkey?”
