TWO bands with members from the Boston area have made it through to the area finals of a national music competition – and with help from The Standard have won some musical equipment in the process.
Lincoln band The Red, which includes Swineshead lad Joshua Johnson, and Boston-based band Bullet Tooth both made it through their regional finals in Dewsbury and Camden to reach the area finals of the Live and Unsigned Competition in the North West and London.
They both also won a £350 Black Star Amp for having the most press and radio coverage, including articles in The Standard.
On the Live and Unsigned Website the judges said Bullet Tooth were: “Musically very strong, tight, shaped, and very good in this style. Rhythm section very solid (strong drums). Watch image, but technically strong. Good engagement also.”
While reviewing The Red they said: “Extremely tight performance – great syncopation. Tiny bit more stagecraft required, but essentially, I’m a fan.”
The bands performed with other artists in front of the audience and a panel of six judges as part of a 90 minute live show.
The tracks they played on the day had to be a seamless fusion of a cover and one original song.
They will now go on to compete for a chance to play at Live Dest, at the O2 Arena, in July and for part of a £100,000 prize pool.
