Sluice Bridge is set to close as part of a week of roadworks starting next Saturday.
Lincolnshire County Council has announced a number of works to ‘improve’ roads in Boston between June 28 and July 7, including on Fydell Street, Tattershall Road, Grand Sluice Bridge, Irby Street, Norfolk Street, and Witham Place.
It will include improvements to the drainage system on the junction of Fydell Street, Carlton Road, and Argyle Street, and also refurbishment of the pedestrian crossing points in that area.
A number of the roads will be resurfaced.
A spokesman said the project will be carried out in different phases to minimise disruption as much as possible.
Lincolnshire County Council head of highways Satish Shah said: “This is a very important piece of work that will improve several of the major roads in Boston.
“We have planned this work to coincide with another project being carried out in the same area by National Grid so we can minimise disruption to local people as much as possible.
“I would, however, like to take this opportunity to apologise to anyone inconvenienced by these road closures.”
During the works a road closure will be in place and a diversion set up using mainly Sleaford Road, John Adams Way and Horncastle Road.
The spokesman said gatemen will be positioned at various locations of the diversion to eliminate confusion as much as possible.
They added access will be maintained at all times for residents and businesses and every effort will be made to support trade throughout the period of work.
Diversions will be:
○ West of Sluice Bridge between Saturday, June 28, until Monday, July 7.
Traffic from the junction of the A52 with Brothertoft road will be diverted via: A52 Sleaford Road, Liquorpond Street, John Adams way, Horncastle Road and Norfolk Street and vice versa.
Throughout this period Lister Way, Carlton Road, Castle Street and Irby Street will be closed at their junction with Fydell Street and there will be no through traffic on Fydell Street or Argyle Street.
Access will be maintained for businesses and residents from either Lister way, Castle Street or Brothertoft Road.
○ East of Sluice Bridge
The A1137 Norfolk Street will be closed from the junction with Witham Place but open for traffic from Tattershall Road to Norfolk Street and vice versa. Access will be maintained for businesses and residents on Witham Bank.
However, Tattershall Road will be closed at the junction with Norfolk Street/Sluice Bridge for Saturday and Sunday, July 5-6, with traffic diverted via Tattershall Road, Rawsons Lane, Horncastle Rd and Norfolk Street and vice versa.
