As concern grows about changes to the welfare system, a project to help social housing tenants manage their money has been given a major boost.

The three-year FIT 4 Your Future scheme, run by Boston Mayflower, has been awarded a £623,000 grant by the Big Lottery Fund to enable it to help tenants who are struggling to deal with their finances.

Project leaders, which also include Boston Citizens Advice Bureau and TaylorITEX CIC say they believe it will be a real help at this time of reform to help people make informed decisions about their money.

Project manager Katy Roberts said: “There are many changes that will be happening to social housing tenants in the next few months and years due to welfare reform changes - it’s important they are supported to make informed decisions about how they spend their money.

“With the general cost of running a household increasing, there is a great fear that more people will look for high-risk sources of money and see their finances get out of control.”
