AN OPEN meeting is to be held to advise parents who are unsure of the future of St Bede’s Catholic Science College in Boston.
Taking place at the Blenkin Memorial Hall, in Wormgate, next Wednesday, from 7pm, it aims to discuss concerns about the proposal from Lincolnshire County Council to close St Bede’s and transfer pupils to Haven High Technology College.
Meeting organiser Michael Follows said the move will deny many parents and children rights to choice and diversity.
He believed Giles Academy, which is offering its support, would be a better choice.
He said: “Their GCSE results are the highest in the secondary schools in the whole of the Boston area.
“Their curriculum is extremely wide and will be available to all pupils of St Bede’s.
“In addition, they have a thriving Sixth Form which would also be available to pupils of St Bede’s.”
Debbie Barnes, assistant director for Children's Services at LCC, said the process was at the next stage and a statutory notice will be published from today (Wednesday) for 30 days.
She said: “We welcome all views and feedback during this period in accordance with the statutory notice.”
A final decision will be made on June 7.
