Here’s a round-up of the latest news around the villages, clubs and societies across Boston borough

Butterwick Happy Circle

The group’s AGM takes place on January 9, 2014, followed by bingo and a buffet. Subscriptions are also due at £8 per person. This is the first increase since 2008.

Kirton Methodist Church

It was party time for the Sisterhood group as they met for lunch in the hall before enjoying an afternoon of entertainment provided by Terri and Nigel.
The next meeting is on TueJanuary 7, at 2.15pm. 
The film Danger in the Manger was screened. The next film will be shown on January 15, 2pm.
A children’s workshop takes place on Saturday, January 4, 10am-2pm. This is for primary school children and a packed lunch is required.

Bicker Women’s institute

At their last meeting, the WI enjoyed a talk on nursing in the 1960s by member Mrs Hierons. Their annual party is on January 14.

Boston Probus Club

The December meeting, held at Boston West Golf Club, saw members enjoy an informative talk called Bats in Focus by Ian Nixon. He spoke of how little most people know about the little mammals and just how many misconceptions people hold about them.

Ian is training officer for the Lincolnshire Bat Group and instructs and issues licences for the netting,tagging and handling of bats. His talk covered the life cycle, hunting techniques, habitat and hibernation of these skillful little creatures and was illustrated with some fine photographs.

He had three bats to show, injured animals which could not be released back into the wild: a pipistrelle, a long-eared and a water bat. 
The next meeting will be on January 23 when the speaker will be Adrian Isaac.

REME Association

The Lincolnshire branch will hold its next meeting, a social evening, at the Drill Hall, in Main Ridge West, Boston, on January 7, at 7.30pm.

Family history group

At the December meeting, members were entertained by a Victorian magic lantern show and the history behind them. The next meeting is on February 7, at the church in Woodthorpe Avenue, when Ann Cole will give a talk.
