Batemans Brewery has been given the go-ahead for a detached bungalow to the rear of the beer garden at the White Hart pub on Main Road in Sibsey.

East Lindsey councillors approved the application despite parish council concerns firstly about overdevelopment and secondly the proposal might be a precursor for the pub to be closed to make way for a larger housing scheme.

However, the second of these worries have been quashed by correspondence from the company’s managing director Stuart Bateman, who wrote: “I confirm that we have absolutely no plans to sell The White Hart. We have recently put new tenants in to the pub, and they are doing a good job in re-establishing trade.”

He added: “It has been our policy over the last 18 months or so to look at pubs where we have excess land or outbuildings where we might gain planning permission for development, with part of any proceeds being ploughed back into the pub.”
