A DONINGTON student is getting fired up to carry the Olympic torch – and then take it home as a permanent reminder, thanks to the generosity of a local company.
Leah Bristow (left) was hoping to be able to keep the torch after carrying it through part of Nottinghamshire on June 28, but her hopes were dashed when she discovered she would have to pay £199 for it.
The 16-year-old A-level student decided to write to local businesses to see if they could help with the finances – and recruitment firm Integrity Plus stepped up to the mark, paying her travel fees and ensuring she will be able to take the torch home.
Leah said: “Participating in the Olympic Flame run means so much to me, and I’m really grateful that their generosity will provide me with a permanent reminder of the day.”
Integrity Plus director John Tipper said the company was ‘delighted to step in’ and help.
