A ketamine addict was told to find help for himself to deal with his problems afterbeing banned from the roads for crashing his car while ‘high’.

Robbie Dowell, 21, of Daisy Dale, Boston, pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs at Boston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Prosecutor Rebecca Ritson said Dowell had been arrested by police after writing the car off by crashing into a kerb.

The court was told that Dowell was stumbling and spoke slurred and his eyelids were partly closed and pupils dilated.

He was taken to Boston Police Station wherehe was found to have 0.26 milligrams of ketamine per litre of blood in his system.

He had a male and a female passenger in the car. The female confirmed Dowell’s identity, however, police could not ‘get any sense’ out of the male, Miss Ritson said.

Defence solicitor Neil Sands told the magistrates that, with his car out of action, Dowell had lost his job and had not worked since.

Mr Sands asked for a drug rehabilitation order and a community sentence rather than a disqualification.

He added ketamine had no ‘immediate alternative’ – such as methadone for heroin – and was harder to quit.

However, chairman of the magistrates’ David Milner-Scudder told Dowell: “If you are looking for the help you are looking for, there are ample services in the community to do just that.

“I think what you are looking for is the motivation to do it, find that in your family or somewhere and by going to Addaction.”

Dowell was ordered to pay a £110 fine, a £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs. He was also disqualified from driving for 20 months.
