Arson attack on speed camera

A SPEED camera in Hubberts Bridge has been destroyed following an arson attack.
The camera, situated on Boardsides, was targeted in the early hours of Monday morning.
Fire crews were called to the scene at about 1.30am to extinguish the fire – believed to have been started after a tyre was put on top and set alight.
Steve Batchelor, spokesman for Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership (LRSP), said: “It will take a vast amount of money to repair the damage caused – money that would have been used to provide road safety education and training.
“Whatever some people may think of these cameras, they are safety devices, installed against strict criteria following public requests for safety improvements.”
LRSP say there is the possiblility this attack is linked to a series of others across the county, which they and the police are investigating.
Crimestoppers is offering up to £1,000 as a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person/s responsible for arson attacks on speed cameras in Lincolnshire.
Sue Langley, East Midlands regional manager at Crimestoppers, said: “These incidents are a safety risk for the whole community.”
