A BOSTON man has today admitted killing a 72-year-old pensioner following an incident at the town’s bus station earlier this year.
Russell Read, 38, of Castle Street, Boston, denied the murder of Joao Costa between 11 and 14 May this year but admitted his manslaughter at Lincoln Crown Court.
Mr Costa, of Porcher Way, Boston, was treated for head injuries after being attacked in the early hours of 11 May.
The Portuguese grandad died two days later in the Pilgrim Hospital.
Adrienne Lucking, prosecuting, told today’s hearing that the Crown was not in a position to establish that Read intended to kill or cause serious injury when he delivered what she described as “moderate” punches.
She said that as a result the prosecution accepted the manslaughter plea.
Judge Michael Heath adjourned sentence to a later date and Read was remanded in custody.
