FESTIVE party goers are being warned that Lincolnshire Police will be clamping down on drink and drug driving during the Christmas and New Year period.
Officers are planning a series of roadside checks across the county which will include breathalyser and Field Impairment Checks (FIT).
Chief Insp Kieran English said: “People in Lincolnshire have, for too long, had their families torn apart by the spectre of drink and drug driving.
“Those left behind suffer for all time the loss of a loved one.
“Our enforcement strategy will target those who continue to blight our society,”
Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership is also reminding everyone they have a responsibility when behind the wheel to ensure they are fit to do so and as passengers to make sure their driver is safe.
In the past year in Lincolnshire six people have died in collisions where drink or drugs were a contributory factor and more than 70 people have been injured.
Communications manager John Siddle said: “When people are enjoying the festive period, we ask you to make provision to travel by nominating a designated driver or pre-arranging a taxi home.”
Call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 to report someone driving under the influence.
