In possession of stolen goods

‘MISGUIDED loyalty’ led a man to court last week – after he was found to be in possession of stolen goods.

Santas Silvicius was found with a stolen camera and two memory cards in the room he shared with his girlfriend in Sydney Street in Boston, town magistrates have been told.

The 22-year-old claimed the camera had been left in the room before he moved in, and that one of the memory cards belonged to him – however he admitted that he had been aware the items were stolen when he appeared in court on Wednesday.

Marie Stace, prosecuting, said two burglaries had taken place in June and the goods taken were found at Silvicius’ home when his room was searched. Each was positively identified by the owner of the items.

But in mitigation, John Storer said he was trying to protect his girlfriend, who had allegedly been engaging in ‘criminal activity’ while he had been at work.

He added: “This was very much an act of omission on the part of Mr Silevicius. He has turned a blind eye to the obvious and when questioned he has tried to cover for someone else.”

Silevicius was also charged with driving while over the limit and driving without insurance when he appeared before magistrates. He pleaded guilty to both charges.

Ms Stace said he was stopped by police on Bartol Crescent in Boston after officers noticed him driving particularly slowly. He was found to have an alcohol reading of 45 microgrammes in 100 milliletres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Mitigating, Mr Storer said he and a friend had just bought the car and had been out for a drink to celebrate. Silevicius made the decision to drive the car as his friend had consumed too much alcohol to get behind the wheel. The pair had not yet had the chance to get the car insured, Mr Storer said.

Magistrates gave him a fine of £100 for handling stolen goods and £140 for driving while over the limit.

He was also banned from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
