A SCRABBLE to get hold of a mobile phone caused a man to kick his girlfriend twice, Boston Magistrates’ Court was told last week.
Scott Bray, of Saddlers Way, Fishtoft, and his partner Holly Read ended up wrestling on the ground when he tried to grab the phone off her to look at some text messages, Mark Hudson, defending, said.
It was in trying to get up that he accidentally kicked the woman, he added.
The 23-year-old pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour with the intention of causing fear of unlawful violence when he stood before the bench on Wednesday.
Marie Stace, prosecuting, said two witnesses had seen Bray standing over Miss Read and shouting and swearing at her, before he kicked her a couple of times. They said he seemed to be trying to grab something off the woman.
In mitigation, Mr Hudson said it was simply a domestic argument which spilled out in public following an argument about a text which resulted in him trying to grab the phone off her.
Mr Hudson said: “He ends up on top of her and gets up and in the process of trying to get the phone off her he kicked her twice.
“He said he didn’t kick her hard, but he emphasises the fact that he wanted to get the phone from her.”
Magistrates fined him £270 and ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
